To better understand antivirus programs, it may be beneficial to understand malware itself. Thankfully, low-footprint software exists for Linux. Some users may argue that antivirus software uses up too much resources. It is still recommended that Linux users have antivirus software installed on Linux systems that are on a network or that have files being transferred to the device. Thankfully, very few viruses exist for Linux, so users typically do not install antivirus software. Some products also include protection from other computer threats, such as infected and malicious URLs, spam, scam and phishing attacks, online identity (privacy), online banking attacks, social engineering techniques, advanced persistent threat (APT) and botnet DDoS attacks.Īll computer systems include laptop, server and tablet can suffer from malware, ransomware, rootkit and viruses, including Ubuntu Linux and BSD. In particular, modern antivirus software can protect from: malicious browser helper objects (BHOs), browser hijackers, ransomware, keyloggers, backdoors, rootkits, trojan horses, worms, malicious LSPs, dialers, fraudtools, adware and spyware. However, with the proliferation of other kinds of malware, antivirus software started to provide protection from other computer threats. Antivirus software, or anti-virus software (abbreviated to AV software), also known as anti-malware, is a computer program used to prevent, detect, and remove malware.Antivirus software was originally developed to detect and remove computer viruses, hence the name.

Reading PDFsįor reading PDFs, these days many people get by without having to use an external application at all. Since PDF files are used in so many different situations for so many different kinds of purposes, you may need to shop around to find the open source alternative to Adobe Acrobat that meets your exact needs. And for Linux users like me, a proprietary application that only runs on Windows or Mac isn't an option anyway. But today, there are numerous open source PDF applications which have chipped away at this market dominance. And, love it or hate it, PDF, the " portable document format," seems to be the go-to format for creating and sharing print-ready files, as well as archiving files that originated as print.įor years, the only name in the game for working with PDF documents was Adobe Acrobat, whether in the form of their free reader edition or one of their paid editions for PDF creation and editing. Until the world moves a little further from paper, print-ready file formats will continue to permeate our digital landscape as well. And I do occasionally admit to reading a paper book, sending a postcard, or (gasp) printing something off to give to someone else. Instead, we've managed to land in an intermediate state of not paperless, but less paper.īetween a trusty scanner, email and various other communication tools, and getting really good at organizing my digital archives, I'm not totally unhappy with where we are today. I can't be the only person who imagined the office of the future, free from the confines of the eight and a half by eleven sheet (or A4, for my international friends), would have long since arrived. Welcome to the communityĪren't we supposed to be living in a paperless world by now?. I have a couple of detailed threads about my problems on this forum somewhere, which mentions the specific problems I had in detail.A guide to uninstall MSI SDK from your systemMSI SDK is a Windows application. It says on the MSI website, that Mystic Light is only compatible up to Windows 8, but it works perfectly fine on Windows 10, in my case. I uninstalled MSI Dragon Center, and I haven't had a single BSOD or any other type of crash since then. When investigating my frequent BSODs, I came across several threads mentioning MSI Dragon Center, claiming it was known for causing BSODs. So the overclocking tab was disabled, as well as network management and the driver updater).Įven having Dragon Center Installed, but not running, caused BSOD. (I had almost all Dragon Center features disabled, as I only wanted to control the motherboard RGB LEDs. I tried changing RAM, CPU, motherboard, many many clean installs of Windows 10 and experimenting wih different drivers. I'm just curious to see what the general consensus is.įor me, MSI Dragon Center was the cause of frequent BSODs I couldn't solve. I hope this thread doesn't come off as whiny, because I realize how lucky I am. I don't doubt people have had issues with the software, but is this a case of the vocal minority making the problem seem more prevalent? I'd like to hear the experiences, both positive and negative, of anyone that's currently using the software. I've looked into some alternatives and workarounds: OpenRgb (not sure if it works on 30 series), Mystic Light 3.0 by itself (apparently doesn't work on x570 or 30 series), and this reddit post detailing how to maybe reduce the amount of bloatware. I could just not install Dragon Center, but then I'd have the big rgb strip on the GPU set to rainbow. The issues I've heard of include: locking CPU at a specific clock, causing crashes, not remembering rgb settings, accidentally deleting Mystic Light, overriding Afterburner's fan settings, etc. Specifically, it seems to me that a lot of people have issues with Dragon Center. From what I understand, MSI makes pretty good GPUs and okay to good mobos, but their software isn't great. Like any "rational" person, I did my research into MSI's products after buying the card. So I was able to get my hands on the MSI 3080 Gaming X Trio from my local Micro Center. While it seems impossible to tell their delusions apart from the mystery of Hinamizawa, slowly the truth is revealed. Usually, the crime involves the murder of one of their own friends. In each story arc, he or one of his friends become paranoid, and a crime is committed. Keiichi himself soon becomes drawn into the strange events surrounding the Watanagashi Festival and Oyashiro. Keiichi learns that every year for the past four years, one person has been murdered and another has gone missing on the day of the Watanagashi Festival. However, the tranquility abruptly ends after the annual Watanagashi Festival, a celebration to commemorate and give thanks to the local god, Oyashiro. Keiichi joins their after-school club activities, which consist mostly of card and board games (and punishment games for the loser, usually him.) Hinamizawa appears to be a normal, peaceful, rural village to Keiichi.
